••••••••••••••••• ABOUT US••••• In winter of 1946 a group of Dothan horse enthusiasts gathered together and began to form what is known today as Dothan Boots and Saddle Club. This group of people joined together to form this club for the youth in the Wiregrass and surrounding areas with the goals of promoting horsemanship and sportsmanship among those youth and providing fellowship for horse lovers of the area.
In 1958, 11 acres of land was purchased at 1347 E. Saunders Rd with guidance from Mr. George Moring. Mr. George Moring, J.L. Adams, R.E. Wells, and Emory Barkley signed a bank note for the purchase of the land and the construction of the club house that stands on the grounds today. To pay off the money owed on the bank note, the club members used funds from many fundraising events and AQHA shows held at the facility.
These original members started an organization that still stands strong today because of many past and current club members and horse lovers who still see the need for a place for our youth of all ages to start out in the show world and learn the ropes of showing horses. Today Dothan Boots & Saddle Club is proud to say we are the oldest member owned saddle club in the USA, and we are right here in the Southeast corner of the great state of Alabama.
DBSC hosts open shows some of which are qualifying shows for the Alabama Open Horseman's Association state show held each year in Montgomery, AL. , Barrel Races, Free clinics, Free Seminars and more throughout each show season. We would love for you to come out and join in the fun and fellowship. We welcome beginner riders and riders of all experiences. We are located in the lower Southeast corner of Alabama in the city limits of Dothan, approximately 20 miles from Georgia and 15 miles from Florida. Located within several minutes driving distance are Wal-Mart, Jeffers Pet/Equine Supply, several restaurants, and hotels. Come out and see what the Oldest Member Owned Saddle Club in the United States is all about.
Don’t worry you do not have to own a horse to be a member of Dothan Boots and Saddle Club. If you enjoy the horses, horse people and being outside in a horse environment and would like to be a part of our club, please feel free to contact us about becoming a member. We invite everyone to join us.
